First Day of School

Happy September 8th, everyone!

For many of us, today is the first day of our 90-day sprint, a chance to put some real intention behind the next few months and make changes that positively impact our lives.

A few friends jokingly said this morning that today feels like the first day of school, and honestly, they couldn’t be more right.

There’s something about September that naturally feels like a fresh start. Summer is winding down, routines are returning, and suddenly there’s this energy around getting organized, setting goals, and figuring out how you want to finish the year.

But the real question is: What are you going to do with this time?

I personally find September through December to be some of the busiest months of the entire year. My job gets incredibly busy during the final quarter. Then you add in holidays, family events, vacations, school obligations, courses, social commitments, and everything else that comes with this season.

There’s a lot competing for our attention.

And yet, September through December has always been my go time. It’s when I tend to do some of my best work and feel the most traction in my life.

For this particular sprint, I’ll be taking a major trip at the beginning of December, so I’ve decided to really focus on September, October, and November. These are my three months to put my head down, create structure, and make meaningful progress.

But I’m approaching this sprint a little differently.

Instead of creating a long list of multifaceted goals, I’ve narrowed my focus to three major goals, supported by three smaller sub-goals.

I think there’s something really powerful about simplifying.

When we try to change everything at once, it can quickly become overwhelming. There’s too much to track, too much to organize, and eventually even the things we were excited about can start feeling like obligations.

Instead, identify the few things that would make the biggest difference in your life right now. Then create smaller habits that support those bigger goals.

For me, some of those supporting habits will live inside my morning and nighttime routines. They’re not necessarily the headline goals, but they create the structure that helps everything else fall into place.

Your sprint doesn’t have to look like mine. In fact, it shouldn’t.

The point is to create something that works for your life, your priorities, and the season you’re currently in.

We chose September 8th intentionally. Labor Day is behind us. Hopefully, you’ve had a chance to rest, enjoy the first week of September, and think about what you want from the months ahead.

Now, it’s go time.

Over the next 90 days, we’re going to dive into how to create structure around our goals, build practices that actually work, recognize when something needs to change, and keep moving forward even when life inevitably gets busy.

I’ll be right there doing it alongside you.

Tomorrow, I’ll share the specifics of my own sprint, including the goals I’m focusing on and how I’m structuring the next three months.

But today, I want to hear from you:

What areas of your life are you looking to refine this quarter? What feels most important to you right now? And where would you love to see meaningful change by December?

Here’s to a fresh start, a focused fall, and seeing what we can accomplish over the next 90 days.

Until we meet again.
