Day 18 of the Reset: What Decluttering Taught Me About Having Enough

Happy Day 18 of the reset! It’s Tuesday, and somehow it already feels like it should be the end of the week.

After what feels like the longest sprint of my life, I have officially reached the end of the decluttering portion of my reset. There are still a few little follow-up items, but the big work is DONE.

Room by room. Closet by closet. Drawer by drawer.

I went through things I had been meaning to deal with for years, cleared out what I no longer needed, reorganized what I wanted to keep, and did a few little refreshes along the way. And as exhausting as this project has been, it has also been incredibly cathartic.

My home feels lighter. It feels refreshed. And, maybe more importantly, it feels intentional again.

There is technically one area left: my attic crawl space. But I’ve decided to save that project for the holidays. Most of what’s up there is Christmas decor anyway, so rather than pulling everything out twice, I’ll tackle it when the decorations come down later this year. Sometimes being productive also means knowing when a project can wait.

But one of the biggest realizations from this entire process actually had very little to do with organization.

It made me think about consumerism.

I look at the bags waiting to be donated and think about how much money was spent on all of those things at one point. Things I wanted. Things I thought I needed. Things that eventually ended up sitting untouched in a closet.

It really makes you take stock of how much we accumulate.

And when you live in a smaller space, there is a physical limit to how much you can own before your belongings start taking over your home.

So moving forward, I want to be much more intentional about what comes through my front door. I don’t want this reset to become an excuse to clear everything out just so I can fill the space back up again.

It’s not about having more. It’s about appreciating what I already have, investing in pieces that genuinely add something to my life, replacing things thoughtfully when needed, and being more conscious about where my money goes.

I started this part of the reset thinking I was simply organizing my home. Somewhere along the way, I realized I was also reevaluating my relationship with stuff, spending, and what “enough” actually looks like.

So, Day 18 question:

Now that we’re more than halfway through this reset, has anything surprised you about yourself?

Has one of your goals uncovered something deeper you weren’t expecting? Has this challenge made you realize there is something you need to change, address, or simply let go of?

I’d love to hear your realizations.

See you tomorrow for Day 19. 🤍
