Happy Day 16, everyone!
Well… something happened yesterday that I’m not too thrilled about: I forgot to post.
Posting every day was one of the habits I committed to for these 30 days, and yesterday completely slipped my mind. I spent the evening with friends, had a busy weekend, and before I knew it, the day was over.
But you know what? It was completely worth it.
I had such a great time. I got out of the house, socialized for what felt like the first time in forever, ate some good food, had some good drinks, and genuinely enjoyed myself.
And maybe there’s a lesson in that too.
Creating habits doesn’t mean we stop living our lives. Missing one day doesn’t erase the previous 14 days of showing up. The important part is what happens next.
So here we are. It’s Sunday, I’m back, and it’s time to reset.
That got me thinking about one of the routines that has made the biggest difference in my life: preparing for the week ahead on Sunday.
Reset the house
I almost always try to reset my home on Sundays. Laundry gets done. Clutter gets put away. Things get cleaned up. Fresh sheets go on the bed.
Is spending part of your weekend cleaning particularly exciting? Absolutely not. But waking up Monday morning to a clean, organized home makes the entire week feel more manageable.
And I have a pretty exciting update on my decluttering project: I’m almost completely through the main part of my house!
All that remains are my loft and attic, which are admittedly going to be huge undertakings. There are still a few little things throughout the house that I want to finish over the coming weeks, but having the majority of it done feels SO good.
Grocery shop + prep
If eating well is one of your goals, Sunday preparation can make such a difference.
I pretty consistently eat the same breakfast, so that part is easy. Dinner, however, is where things can go off the rails when I’m busy or tired.
I’ve found that thinking through two or three healthy dinners for the week makes everything easier. They don’t necessarily need to be completely meal-prepped either. Sometimes it’s simply having the ingredients in the house and knowing I can make something quickly.
I also like having healthy snacks ready to grab so I’m not making every food decision when I’m already hungry.
Plan your movement
Next, I look at my workouts.
I don’t create an incredibly rigid schedule because you never know exactly how your body is going to feel. But I like having a rough plan.
I’ll usually schedule a few Pilates classes earlier in the week to get my body moving and back into the groove. And Friday is always dance class, which gives me another workout already built into my schedule.
Having those things planned ahead means I’m not waking up every morning asking myself, Am I going to work out today?
The decision has mostly already been made.
The Sunday everything shower
And finally, we can’t forget the beauty reset.
Sunday is the perfect time for an everything shower and whatever maintenance needs to happen before the week starts. Hair care, shaving, skincare, body care, nails, or whatever makes you feel a little more put together.
There’s something about going to bed Sunday night freshly showered, with clean sheets, a clean house, groceries in the refrigerator, and a few workouts on the calendar that makes Monday feel significantly less intimidating.
None of these things are groundbreaking.
But I’m realizing more and more throughout this challenge that making life easier for your future self is one of the best forms of self-care.
You don’t need the perfect Sunday routine. You just need a few small things that make Monday-you grateful for Sunday-you.
So that’s my Day 16 reset. Yesterday I forgot to post because I was busy living my life. Today, I’m getting myself back together.
And tomorrow, we keep going.
I’d love to hear from you: What do you do on Sundays to prepare for the week ahead? Do you have any Sunday rituals that help you feel like you have your life together?
