Day 12: The Recommendation Room — Becoming the Version of You You’re Building

Happy Day 12 of our reset challenge, friends!

As we get closer to the halfway point, I’ve been thinking a lot about something that goes beyond workouts, nutrition, beauty appointments, organization, or any of the individual goals we’ve been talking about.

It’s identity.

When we decide we want to make a change, we usually start with a list of things we want to do. Work out more. Eat better. Declutter the house. Take better care of our skin and hair. Save more money. Read more. Spend less time scrolling. Get organized.

But eventually, I think the bigger question becomes:

Who am I trying to become?

Because there’s a difference between trying to complete a 30-day challenge and slowly becoming someone who naturally lives differently.

For me, this reset isn’t about creating an entirely new person. It’s actually about getting back to a version of myself that feels the most like me, while also making room for the person I’m still becoming.

Someone who takes care of her body because she wants to feel strong and healthy.

Someone who keeps her home organized because she feels better when her surroundings are peaceful.

Someone who puts effort into beauty and self-care because those rituals bring her joy.

Someone who can be disciplined without being rigid.

Someone who can have big goals while still enjoying her life along the way.

And I think that last one is especially important.

Sometimes we imagine our “best self” as this incredibly disciplined person who wakes up at 5 a.m., never skips a workout, eats perfectly, has an immaculate house, drinks a gallon of water, reads 50 pages a day, and somehow has already answered every email before breakfast.

That woman sounds exhausted.

Instead, I’m trying to think about the habits and choices that actually fit the life I want long term.

When I’m deciding whether something belongs in my routine, I’ve started asking myself a simple question:

Would the version of me I’m trying to become want this to be part of her normal life?

Not just for August.

Not just for a challenge.

Not just until I reach a certain weight, finish organizing my house, or hit another goal.

But as part of my actual lifestyle.

And if the answer is yes, then the goal becomes figuring out how to make that habit sustainable enough that I can keep it.

That might mean doing something imperfectly.

It might mean taking a rest day.

It might mean changing the plan.

It might even mean realizing that something I thought I should be doing doesn’t actually belong in the life I’m trying to create.

Day 12 is your reminder that a reset isn’t only about checking things off a list.

You’re casting votes for the person you want to be.

And you don’t have to become her overnight.

You just have to keep choosing her, one small decision at a time.

Today’s Recommendation Room: Take five minutes and write down three words that describe the version of yourself you want to step into this fall. Then ask yourself: What would that version of me do today?

Nothing huge. Just one choice.

See you tomorrow for Day 13. 🤍
